Canada India Foundation welcomes India-related initiatives in the Federal Budget

TORONTO, March 23 /CNW/ - Canada India Foundation (CIF), a not-for-profit public policy organization committed to strengthening of Canada India relations, today welcomed the commitment by Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty to enhance Canada's engagement with India through a number of channels such as businesspeople, public servants, researchers and academic institutions, during his budget speech.

 

"Given India's emergence as one of the economic powers of the world, Canada's emphasis on stronger ties with India is both natural and essential. Successful and timely conclusion of negotiations towards a trade agreement is key to achieving the full trade potential between the two countries" said Ramesh Chotai, Chair of Canada India Foundation.

"The special focus on education in the budget is commendable" said Barj Dhahan, Co-Chair, CIF "The Canada Research Excellence Chair program coupled with support for an international marketing strategy promoting higher education and research in Canada can result in bringing high quality researchers from India", he added.

"Canada India Foundation looks forward to making a significant contribution to Canada's engagement with India, through its academic-focused public policy initiatives and its annual Canada-India Forums highlighting specific industry sectors" said Aditya Jha, National Convenor, CIF.
