TORONTO: Mr Tulsi Tanti, popularly known as "Wind man of India", has been selected for Chanchlani Global India award 2009 for his outstanding contributions to promote non-conventional sources of energy.
The award, instituted by Canada India Foundation, carries $50,000 and a trophy. Mr Tanti, who hails from Gujrat and presently based in Pune will be conferred on the award on April 18 in presence of Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of the Planni ng Commission and Mr Michael Ignatieff, Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada (opposition leader in Parliament) will be the guest of honour.
Mr Ahluwalia will also address the first Canada India Energy Forum, organised by CIF from April 15 to April 17 to identify opportunities for collaboration in the energy sector between the two countries.
Suzlon Energy Limited, a $10 billion worth wind power based company, whose Mr Tanti is Chairman and Managing Director, commands over 10.5 per cent global market share of the renewable sources of energy.
The fifth largest wind turbine manufacturer in the world and the largest in Asia, Suzlon recently acquired Hansen Transmissions, a Belgian maker of wind-turbine gearboxes.
