A PROMINENT member of the Indian Canadian community has been appointed to the Board of
Export Development Canada
(EDC) by the federal government.
Canadian Minister of International
Trade David Emerson
declared Ajit Someshwar's appointment
to the Board of Directors
of EDC in an announcement
on May 13.
"Mr Someshwar brings important
experience in a number of
fields to the Board of Directors
and will make a key contribution
to EDC's future," said Emerson.
"Mr
Someshwar also has extensive knowledge in
risk management and information technology
and is a successful global entrepreneur, which
will add significantly to the continued accomplishments
of EDC."
EDC is Canada's export credit agency offering
innovative commercial solutions to
help Canadian exporters and investors expand
their international business. Its knowledge
and partnerships are used by 7,000
Canadian companies and their global customers
in up to 200 markets each year. The
self-sustaining organization is a recognized
leader in financial reporting and economic
analysis and has been named one of Canada's
top 100 employers by Macleans magazine for
seven consecutive years.
Born in Mumbai, Someshwar, a chartered
accountant by profession, founded CSI Consulting
in 1998, a company that has achieved
an annual average growth rate of 48 percent.
The accomplished entrepreneur with
broad experience in information technology and risk management deploys more than 400
consultants based in the US, Canada, India
and Europe.
"Our operations are increasingly global in
scope and reflect the growing interest among
western corporations looking to India for alternative
and cost competitive solutions to
managing their technology and risk management
systems,"
Someshwar said.
Someshwar, who has been playing an active
role in promoting trade between
Canada and India, has also served as president
of the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce
(ICCC), a 31-year-old not-profit business
organization representing over 1000
members from the Canadian business and
professional communities.
Someshwar is currently the convener of
the Canada India Foundation, a not-for-profit
organization, which promotes stronger bi-lateral
relations between Canada and India,
while working to secure and promote the interests
of Canada's dynamic Indo-Canadian
community within the Canadian mosaic. |
