Hon. Jim Flaherty 
James M. Flaherty is a second-term Member of Parliament for Whitby-Oshawa (Ontario). He serves as Canada's Minister of Finance and Minister Responsible for the Greater Toronto Area. He is a Governor of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. As Minister of Finance he is an ex-officio member of all Cabinet Committees.

Previously, for more than 10 years, he served as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Whitby-Ajax (Ontario). He served as Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance, Attorney General and Minister of Labour.

He graduated from Princeton University cum laude and then graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School. He was called to the Bar in Ontario with honours and practised law for more than 20 years before being elected to public office.

He is married to Christine Elliott, who serves as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Whitby-Ajax. They live in Whitby with their 17-year-old triplet sons.

Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia

Montek is the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, India. He was the first Director of the Independent Evaluation Office, International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Prior to taking up his position at the IMF, Mr. Ahluwalia was a Member of the Planning Commission in New Delhi as well as a Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. He had previously served as Finance Secretary at Ministry of Finance, Secretary at Department of Economic Affairs, Commerce Secretary, Special Secretary to the Prime Minister and Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance. In 2007 he became a member of the influential Washington-based financial advisory body, the Group of Thirty

Ahluwalia is instrumental in charting India's way ahead. The Oxford-educated economist spent 11 years with the World Bank in Washington before returning to India in 1979 to work as an economic adviser to the government, a task he continues today. Ahluwalia's fingerprints can be found in policies from economics to education reform, and he has been a driving force in the liberalization program of the past 16 years.

His published work includes papers in professional journals and contributions to books.

Dr. Michael Ignatieff  (keynote address)

Michael is an author, scholar, journalist, and lifelong Liberal. He was elected as a Member of Parliament for Etobicoke-Lakeshore in 2006, re-elected in 2008, and currently serves as the Leader of the Official Opposition and Interim Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. He is one of Canada's leading voices on the world stage in the field of human rights, democracy and international affairs.
