For over a decade, Bhim D. Asdhir has guided Excel Funds Management Inc. with his strategic and visionary leadership. As the founder, president, and CEO of Excel Funds, Bhim has provided the direction and expertise to steer Excel Funds from a start-up operation to one that boasts of incredible success today.

Bhim graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1987 with a double degree in actuarial science and computer science, and was also awarded the prestigious Descartes Award in mathematics from the academic institution. That same year, Bhim joined actuarial consulting firm Watson Wyatt, where for 10 years he excelled in setting up and managing insurance companies for key clients.

Bhim was drawn to the enormous economic potential housed in emerging markets while visiting India in the mid-1990’s. He launched the Excel India Fund in 1998, the first and only mutual fund of its kind in Canada, and began the illustrious success story that is Excel Funds. Since then, the Company has grown to become the largest emerging market-focused fund line up in Canada with 12 products targeting all major geographic regions. It is the only mutual fund company in Canada to specialize in emerging markets and was among the first to offer investors opportunities in India, China and Emerging Europe.

Bhim’s foresight continues to reinforce Excel Funds as a pioneer in the Canadian investment industry and has gained industry recognition. In June 2007, the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce awarded him with the honour of Male Entrepreneur of the Year. He has also been published by numerous prominent business publications and has made many radio and television appearances on mainstream media outlets such as Globe and Mail, BNN, and CNBC.
